Canal Crusher Rochester
We are very excited to bring back the Canal Crusher bouldering comp for the climbing community of western NY and beyond! We welcome climbers of all skill levels to compete in this community event.
There are some changes to the comp for this year, including an Open Category with a Finals Round and CASH PURSE! Read on for full details.
- The Canal Crusher is open to climbers of all skill levels
- Open to both members and non-members
- Redpoint round format with Finals afterwards for Open Category climbers
- Citizens Category (Beginner V0-V2, Intermediate V2-V5, Advanced V5-V7), and Open category (V8+)
- Those competing in the Open category can win a chance to compete in the Finals where they can win a cash purse + other prizes.
Competitor Categories:
OPEN CATEGORY ~V8+: Climbers in this category must register specifically for Open. Open competitors must register in either Redpoint Round #1 or #2.
CITIZENS CATEGORY: Recreational, Intermediate, and Advanced. Your Redpoint Round score will determine your category. Citizens categories listed below. Grade ranges are approximate.
- Recreational ~V0 – V2
- Intermediate ~V2 – V5
- Advanced ~V5 – V7
Redpoint Rounds Info:
- 40+ boulder problems for competitors to score points on. Competitors will enter the session with the goal of completing the highest value problems.
- Competitors will pick one Redpoint Round timeslot to compete in. Open Category competitors must do either Round #1 or #2.
- A competitor’s Final Redpoint score shall be the cumulative value of their top 5 completed problems.
- The top 5 Open Category competitors will qualify for Finals. This is a total of 6 climbers in Finals.
- If a qualifying climber is unable to make the Finals, the next highest qualifier will be asked to attend, and so forth.
Cost:
- All registrations come with a comp t shirt
- If you register by end of day on 8/21, you will be able to pick up your shirt at CRG Rochester on the day of the comp!
- If you register after 8/21, your shirt will arrive at CRG Rochester ~3 weeks after the comp date
Finals & Awards Ceremony Details:
- Awards and prizes for all Citizens Categories will be given out at the conclusion of Redpoint Round #3.
- Awards and prizes for the Finals Competitors will be given out at the conclusion of Finals.
- The Finals round will begin at 7pm and go until it’s done!
- Top 5 climbers from the Open Category Redpoint Rounds will qualify for Finals.
- Cash prizes for Finals for both Men’s and Women’s categories:
- 1st = $350 2nd = $250 3rd = $150
